Timeline
14:36
Start with a coffee and light bite at Diesel Cafe. It is an area favorite with locally owned charm and art for sale on the walls. It is open from 07:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and weekends, so it is ready for you two hours before sunset.
15:48
Walk 48 minutes southeast to the Prospect Hill Monument. Climb the tower for great views of Boston. Check out the slightly unfamiliar flag flying atop the structure. This was a Betsy Ross original. Arrive just in time to watch the golden light begin to fade.
16:36
Stand at the top as the sun sets toward the WSW. The view of Boston is best in this fading light.
17:36
Walk 5 minutes back down to Bloc Cafe in Union Square. Grab a tea or espresso to warm up. The cafe features artwork and serves pastries and soups. It is open until 19:00 every day, so you will have plenty of time.
Local tip
The walk up Prospect Hill is steep. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a light jacket as it gets chilly near the water at sunset.
