Walk south to the Former residence of Zhang Xueliang. The grounds are open until 17:30 in winter, so you have time to explore the home of the former warlord and his son. Check the entrance price if you plan to see the adjacent Zhao Yi Di House and Financial Museum.

Watch the sunset. On January 15th, the sun sets toward the WSW around 16:39. The golden light begins at 15:56, so you will see the residence bathed in warm light just before the sun disappears. Find a quiet corner in the residence grounds to observe the sky.

End your evening back at Zhong Jie. The shops are still open, and it is a short walk from the residence. Use this time to reflect on the history you just witnessed or buy a souvenir from the local vendors.

The residence closes at 17:30 in winter, so keep an eye on the time. The sunset is early, so the golden hour starts well before the sun actually dips below the horizon.
