Arrive at Abbeyfield Park before the sun breaks. Find a spot with a view toward the southwest to catch the sunrise as it crests the horizon.
09:13
Walk just two minutes from the park to the Bay Horse Inn. The doors open at 15:00 on weekdays, so this stop works best on a weekend morning or if you are already there for the sunrise. Order a coffee and a breakfast item to warm up after the early chill.
09:43
Return to Abbeyfield Park for a second look in the full morning light. The park’s historic grounds and the former school building take on a different character once the sun is fully up. Stay as long as you like to enjoy the fresh air.
Local tip
The sunrise is in the southwest. Check the weather forecast for cloud cover, as heavy clouds can obscure the golden light effect. The Bay Horse Inn is the only nearby food option that opens early on weekends (12:00 Sunday) or late afternoon on weekdays, so plan your breakfast timing accordingly.
Check before you go
- Abbeyfield Park is open from dawn to dusk.
- Bay Horse Inn opens at 15:00 Monday to Thursday and Saturday, 14:00 Friday, and 12:00 Sunday. If visiting on a weekday morning before 15:00, you will need to bring your own breakfast or wait until the afternoon.
