Timeline

  1. 15:38

    Broken Arrow Trail

Start your hike up Broken Arrow Trail. The well-marked path with cairns leads you to Chicken Point. Arriving two hours before sunset gives you plenty of time to reach the viewpoint and find a good spot before the crowds and mountain bikkers arrive.

  2. 17:23

    Broken Arrow Trail, Sedona

Position yourself at the Broken Arrow Trail viewpoint. You are looking WSW. The sun will dip below the horizon here, painting the red rocks in deep orange and purple hues. This is the key moment for the evening light.

  3. 18:38

Slide Rock State Park Sedona Az

Walk down to Slide Rock State Park. It is only a short 14-minute walk from the trail anchor. The park is open in the evening, and the area is calm after the sun has set. It is a good place to stretch your legs and enjoy the transition into night.

Local tip

The trail is popular for mountain biking. By starting early and finishing before dark, you avoid the peak activity and the Pink Jeeps that start around 8AM the next day.
