Golden Hour at Ross Creek

A short walk from the museum to catch the sun dipping below the Ship Canal mural.

Best time: 15 JanuaryAbout 45 min

Timeline

  1. 16:20

    Dusty Strings

Stop at Dusty Strings for a quick look. Try out a hammer dulcimer or ask Olivia to play the harp. It is a 13-minute walk from Ross Creek, but since we are starting here, it is easy to pop in before the light changes.

  2. 16:35

    George and Dragon

Head to George and Dragon for a pint. This British pub is just a 4-minute walk from the viewing spot. It is a great place to wait out the final minutes before the sun sets, with plenty of space to watch the light shift.

  3. 16:45

    Ross Creek

Stand before Ross Creek. The 6x6 glazed tiles depict the Ship Canal as it was in 1875. At sunset on 15 January, the sun sets toward the WSW, aligning perfectly with the mural’s perspective. Watch the golden light hit the tiles and the water.

Local tip

The museum is 53 minutes away by foot, so do not try to combine it with this walk. Start at Ross Creek and work backward from the sunset.
