Best time: 15 OctAbout 240 min

Timeline

  1. 16:14

    Spaten Pub and Restaurant

Grab a hearty meal at Spaten Pub and Restaurant. It is a traditional spot just seven minutes from the Prison Museum, giving you plenty of time to eat and digest before heading up the hill. The kitchen closes at 22:00, so you will arrive well before the last call.

  2. 16:44

    Observation Tower

Walk up to the Observation Tower. The view looks west, directly toward the setting sun. Arrive about an hour before sunset to find a good spot on the tower or the surrounding grounds. The walk from the town center takes about 26 minutes, leaving you time to climb and settle in.

  3. 17:44

    Observation Tower

Watch the sunset. On this date, the sun dips below the horizon toward the WSW at 17:44. The sky will shift from bright gold to deep blue as the light fades over the Zemplén mountains.

  4. 18:29

    Szoba

Head back down to the town center and find Beles Ruin Bar. It is a four-minute walk from the museum area. This is the perfect place to cool off with a drink as the evening settles. Note that in October and April, this bar is only open on Thursdays from 18:00 to 23:00, and on Fridays and Saturdays from 18:00 to 04:00. If it is a different day of the week, check the route to Szoba, which is nearby.

Local tip

The Observation Tower offers the clearest western view. If the weather is clear, the golden light around 17:01 provides a beautiful warm glow before the final drop of the sun.

Check before you go

  • Beles Ruin Bar has limited hours in the autumn/winter season (Oct–Apr: Thu 18:00–23:00, Fri/Sat 18:00–04:00). Verify the day of the week before going.
  • Spaten Pub and Restaurant is open until 22:00, so you have ample time for dinner.
