Timeline

    The Boardwalk

Take the raised boardwalk across Mill Creek toward the dunes. The path is shallow and winds through the marsh before reaching the beach. Arrive with plenty of time to settle in before the light shifts.

  2. 15:53

    Town Neck Beach

Stand at the end of the boardwalk where it meets the rocky, narrow beach. Watch the sun dip toward the WSW. The golden light reflects off the water and the dunes, offering a clear view of the horizon.

  3. 16:38

    Heritage Museums & Gardens

Walk back toward the main area and head to the gardens. The 100-acre grounds are open into the evening. Stroll among the rhododendrons and hydrangeas as the sky darkens. The museums are closed, but the paths remain accessible and peaceful.

Local tip

The boardwalk is a public access point. Parking is available nearby. There are no facilities at the beach itself, so bring what you need. The gardens are large, so wear comfortable shoes for the walk back from the shore.

Check before you go

  • The gardens at Heritage Museums & Gardens have specific closing times for the museum exhibits, but the grounds are generally accessible. Check their current hours for the evening.
  • Sunset times vary by season. This plan is based on mid-January conditions. If visiting in summer, the golden light will be later in the evening.
