Timeline

  1. 15:30

    Lands End Lookout

Start at the Lands End Lookout. This visitor center offers a good overview of the area and a chance to grab a coffee or light snack before heading down. The gift shop and cafe are open, making it a practical first stop to orient yourself.

  2. 16:00

    Sutro Baths

Walk down to the Sutro Baths ruins. The concrete foundations and the pool flooded with seawater offer a stark, atmospheric landscape. Spend time exploring the tunnels and the cliff edge. The site is free and open for exploration.

  3. 16:55

    Sutro Heights Park

Head up to Sutro Heights Park. This hilltop park offers the best vantage point for the final moment. The beautiful landscaping provides a calm contrast to the ruins below, and you will be positioned to watch the sun set over the ocean.

  4. 17:15

    Sutro Heights Park

Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW, providing a clear view from the heights of Sutro Heights Park. The golden light from 16:35 will have already bathed the scene, but the final moments of daylight are best enjoyed here.

Local tip

The walk between the Lookout, the Baths, and the Heights Park is short and well-signposted. Allow time to wander the ruins, but keep an eye on the sky as the sun sets quickly.
