Arrive at the parking area at the northern tip of Twin Peaks Boulevard. Find a spot near the edge to watch the sky lighten. The temperature will be significantly lower than in the rest of the city, so bring a jacket. Wait in the cool air as the city below begins to stir.
07:23
Watch the sun crest over the western horizon. The golden light hits the Bay Bridge and the downtown skyline, turning the fog into gold. Stay for the full effect as the light shifts from orange to bright white.
07:53
Head down to Creightons, the local coffee shop and bakery. It is a short walk from the landmark. Order a coffee and a pastry. The atmosphere is quiet and patronized largely by students of the nearby Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, making it a calm place to digest the view.
Local tip
The Muni bus #37 to the Castro is the closest public transit service, letting off a short climb up the east face of the peaks. Check the route if you are not driving.
Check before you go
- Temperatures at Twin Peaks are quite a bit lower than in the rest of the city. Bring warm layers.
- Creightons does not publish opening hours in the context, so arrive early as it is a neighborhood staple that opens before the rush.
