   Fiesta Island

   This island in the middle of Mission Bay hosts the Fiesta Island Time Trial Series, hosted by the San Diego Bicycle Club. Competitors meet up to see who can ride the quickest 20k or improve the most. Single riders, tandems and teams are all welcome, and the event also hosts triathletes and world class road race athletes. There is always a waiting list for these trials, so early registration is vital if you want to take part in this very exciting aspect of cycling in Mission Bay Park.

   Flamingo Deck

   American beachside restaurant specializing in brunch, cocktails, and more. Capable for private events and occasional live music. Happy Hour M-F 3-6PM. Brunch Sa Su 10AM-2PM.

   Kono’s

   This eatery has the best budget breakfast in town, across from the entrance to Crystal Pier. A sign on the wall boasts how many days have passed since they last raised their prices; a figure which is easily over 365. On weekends the line outside gets so long you’d think it was nightclub, but the food is well worth the wait. They specialize in big breakfasts and breakfast burritos.

   Private members-only club. Strict attire, cell phone, and tipping guidelines.

   Two-story bar and restaurant with lots of TVs and an open-air area. Open for brunch on weekends with family-friendly menu. Converts to a popular club at night.

   Moonshine Beach

   Sister location of Moonshine Flats in downtown, the Pacific Beach location offers the same activities but in a larger space - including open air sections. The club offers line dancing lessons (select days), live country bands, karaoke, and club music. On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a cover charge can be avoided by signing up for the free guest list on their website.

9. EatMid-City

   Red Fox Steakhouse and Piano Bar

   Charming place where it's easy to imagine you've time-traveled to the early 1970s. Don't expect cutting-edge cuisine, but when your parents or grandparents wanted to have a nice evening out, they probably went somewhere like this. The bar furnishings came from a 17th-century English pub - think mood lighting and lots of dark leather and oak. Also a good place for a cocktail or two. Live music nightly.

    Silver Spigot Cocktail Lounge

    Mission Beach's premier longstanding dive bar. Loads of stuff on the walls, TVs with Chargers games, and pool. Reasonably priced drinks with locals inside. Quiet place to duck in and have a few jars off the beaten path.

    Fine dining establishment right by the water, it also serves as an event venue for private events and more. Connected to the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, Inc. Since 1941.

    Humphreys Concerts By the Bay

    A concert series held every May through October, showcasing some famous entertainers (Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jewel, The Moody Blues, Bonnie Raitt) at Humphrey's Half Moon Inn & Suites. A wide variety of styles, from rock and jazz to comedy, blues and international music. Humphreys Restaurant also has live blues/jazz/disco/classic rock music every night in its lounge.

    Kensington

    Centered along Adams Avenue east of CA-15, is a small community with much charm. Instead of going here for excitement, you should go to relax. Take some time to walk around the neighborhood and see all of the old houses and their well kept gardens. Get a cup of coffee at Kensington Cafe and then enjoy it at the park that surrounds the local library. Around dinner take the time to eat at the local restaurants and then either have a few drinks at the Club Kensington or see an indie or foreign film at the theater or rent one from Kensington Video.

    The Adams Avenue Street Fair

    Held over the last weekend in late September, showcases local business and organizations, various food and tchotchke vendors, and six stages of live music across the three blocks of this main drag in Normal Heights.

    Entrance is free, but the food and beer gardens can be a bit pricey
