Timeline

  1. 06:21

    Mission Bay Aquatic Center

Walk the perimeter of Mission Bay Aquatic Center to find a quiet spot on the western shore. The water is calm and the sky is just beginning to lighten. Keep an eye out for the 'sail only' zone markers.

  2. 06:51

    Mission Bay Aquatic Center

Watch the sunrise. The sun sets toward the WSW, but in the morning, the light will hit the water from the east, creating a bright reflection across the bay. It is the perfect moment to pause and take in the stillness before the boats start moving.

  3. 07:36

    Oceana Coastal Kitchen

Head to Oceana Coastal Kitchen for breakfast. They open at 07:00, which is just in time after the sunrise. Try the breakfast scrambles or bowls to fuel up after the early start.

  4. 08:36

    SDSU Beach

Walk over to SDSU Beach for a final look at the bay. It is a short walk and offers a different perspective of the water. It is an outdoor education site, so it is often peaceful and great for a quiet finish to the morning.

Local tip

The western half of the bay is sail-only during the day, so you will have a clear view of the water from the shore. Check the route if you need to get from the aquatic center to the beach.

Check before you go

  • Oceana Coastal Kitchen opens at 07:00. Arrive right at opening if you want to be first.
  • The walk between steps is short and manageable in the morning light.
