Timeline
08:00
Take bus #52 to Villa Cathedral and start the trek to the refuge. This is the most direct route and gets you moving while the morning light is clear.
09:30
Walk the trail toward the refuge. If conditions allow, you can explore the nearby granite 'agujas' (needles) which offer climbing routes for all levels.
10:30
Reach the refuge area. This is the time to rest, enjoy the view of Lago Jakob if visible, and have a snack or lunch. The area is spacious enough to avoid crowding.
11:00
If the weather permits and it is cold enough, try skating on the lake near the refuge. This is a unique local activity available only when ice conditions are safe.
12:00
Begin your return trek to Villa Cathedral to catch the connecting bus back to town.
Local tip
The main access is from Villa Cathedral via bus #52, which runs every hour. Check the bus schedule in advance as the last return bus may be early. If you start from Los Cohi, the trek is longer and requires more time.
Check before you go
- Bus #52 runs hourly from Villa Cathedral. Verify the current timetable as winter schedules may vary.
- Skating is only possible when the lake is frozen solid enough to support weight. Check local conditions on the day.
- Climbing the 'agujas' requires appropriate gear and experience. Ensure you are prepared for alpine conditions.
