    Fürst

Grab original Mozartkugels and a coffee at Fürst. The shop opens at 09:00, so you have plenty of time before the afternoon rush. This is the place where the famous chocolate spheres were invented in 1884.

  2. 18:27

    Hohensalzburg Fortress

Head up to Hohensalzburg Fortress. If you take the funicular, you save energy for the climb. Once inside, wander the walls. The fortress offers breathtaking views of the city and Alps, and you can look down on the executioner's residence in the field below.

    Hohensalzburg Fortress

Find a spot on the ramparts facing west. On 15 April, the sun sets at 19:57 toward the WNW. The golden light starts around 19:15, giving you a warm glow over the Salzach river and the city rooftops before the sun dips below the horizon.

  4. 20:57

    Die Weisse

Walk down to Die Weisse for a post-sunset drink. Located in one of Salzburg's most historic breweries, this is where locals hang out. It is best to make reservations Wednesday through Saturday as it gets crowded, but the atmosphere is authentic and the Bavarian treats are excellent.

Local tip

The fortress is open until 17:00 in winter, but on 15 April it stays open later. Check the specific opening hours for your date, as they change with the season. For Die Weisse, reserve ahead if you are visiting on a weekend.
