Timeline
15:10
Arrive at the central market as it opens. The inverted seashell structure is striking in the morning light, and the stalls are fresh. This is the quietest time to appreciate the building designed by Louis Simon and André Morisseau.
16:10
Walk eight minutes to Le Régent for a snack. Their artesanal ice cream, crêpes, or waffles are perfect for a morning treat while you are still in the center.
17:10
Head to the Grande roue de Royan in the port. It is a 17-minute walk from the market area. Ride the Ferris wheel for a panoramic view of the city landmarks and the estuary while the light is still soft.
Local tip
The market is open daily in high season and Tue-Sat in low season. Check the route from the market to Le Régent and then to the Grande roue, as the paths wind through the port area.
