Timeline

  1. 13:04

    Lappish Restaurant Gaissa

Have a late lunch at Lappish Restaurant Gaissa. The lunch buffet runs until 14:00, so arrive before then to grab a plate of local specialties while the day is still bright. The restaurant is a short walk from the river area.

  2. 13:49

    Ounaskoski beach

Walk to Ounaskoski beach to watch the sun sink toward the SSW. The sand beach offers a clear view of the horizon. Note that the river current is strong, so stay behind the safety barrier.

  3. 15:04

    Lappish Restaurant Gaissa

Head back to Lappish Restaurant Gaissa for dinner. After sunset, the atmosphere inside the award-winning Lapland-style restaurant is warm and inviting. The kitchen serves dinner from 15:00 onwards.

  4. 16:04

    Pub Oluthuone

Finish the evening with a drink at Pub Oluthuone. It is a cosy, fairly typical Finnish pub where the crowd is mostly locals aged 30 and up. It is cheaper than many other bars in the centre and open until 02:00 on weekdays.

Local tip

The sunset in mid-January is early. If you want to stretch the evening, the nightclub at Oliver's Corner opens at 22:00, but it can get crowded and the line outdoors might get long.
