Grab a pint at Pub Oluthuone. It is a cosy, typical Finnish pub where you will likely find locals in their thirties and up. The atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are reasonable for the area.

Walk up to Ounaskoski beach. This is a popular sand beach on the river. Keep an eye on the water; the current is strong and the safety barriers are there for good reason. Find a spot on the sand where the sun is hitting the water and the riverbank.
16:31
Watch the golden light. The sun is setting toward the WSW, casting a warm glow over the river Kemijoki. The light starts around 16:31 and fades quickly as the sun dips below the horizon.
17:01
End the evening at Lappish Restaurant Gaissa. It is a Lapland style restaurant that has earned the Chaîne de Rôtisseurs shield. The lunch buffet is over, but the restaurant is open for dinner from 15:00. It is a good place to warm up with hearty local food after the chill of the riverbank.
Local tip
The golden light in October is brief. Do not linger at the pub for too long if you want to catch the peak glow on the river. The beach has locker rooms and toilets if you need to freshen up before heading to dinner.
