Timeline

  1. 16:29

    Be.Re

Start at Be.Re, a pub with a good selection of craft beers and snacks like Trapizzino. It opens at 11:00, so you have plenty of time to settle in before heading out.

  2. 16:59

    Parco Regionale Urbano del Pineto

Walk to Parco Regionale Urbano del Pineto. It is a large protected natural area in northwest Rome. This is a long walk, so use the metro or bus to get there if you are not up for a 47-minute hike from the Vatican area, or skip this step and head straight to the viewing spot. If you do walk, enjoy the green space.

  3. 17:44

    Vatican Hill

Head to Vatican Hill. This is the best vantage point for the sunset. The sun sets toward the W, providing a clear view over the city. Arrive 45 minutes before sunset to find a good spot.

  4. 18:29

    Vatican Hill

Watch the sunset. The sun dips below the horizon at 18:29. The sky will turn golden and then blue as the city lights begin to twinkle.

  5. 19:14

    L'Insalata Ricca

End your evening at L'Insalata Ricca. It is a regional restaurant that serves salads and other food. It is open until 23:30, so it is perfect for a late dinner after the sunset.

Local tip

The walk from the Vatican area to Pineto is long. Consider taking public transport to Pineto if you want to include it. If you skip Pineto, you can spend more time at Vatican Hill or grab an earlier drink at Be.Re.
