Timeline

  1. 15:30

    Lamberton Conservatory

Start at the Lamberton Conservatory. The glass structure holds exotic desert and tropical species that cannot survive Rochester’s winter outdoors, offering a warm, humid refuge from the stark cold outside. Arriving early ensures you have the space to yourself before the afternoon crowds arrive.

  2. 16:15

    Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters

Walk to Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters for a hot drink. This café is open until 20:00 on weekdays, making it the perfect spot to grab a warm beverage and settle in for a short rest before heading back toward the park for the evening light.

  3. 17:00

    Lamberton Conservatory

Return to the Lamberton Conservatory entrance or the surrounding grounds for the sunset. On 15 January, the sun sets at 17:00 toward the WSW. The golden light begins at 16:16, bathing the conservatory’s exterior and the nearby landscape in a warm glow as the day ends.

Local tip

The conservatory is open year-round, but the winter exterior can be stark. Use the warm interior as a base to enjoy the golden hour light hitting the building and the nearby Genesee Riverway Trail entrance at Genesee Valley Park.
