Timeline
14:27
Pick up a coffee or hot chocolate at Café Kaskelot. It is a short walk from the viewing area, so you can carry your drink to the water's edge.
14:57
Walk the short distance to Juvre Engsø. Find a spot near the large concrete bird hide facing southwest. The artificial lake reflects the sky, and the hide offers shelter if the wind picks up.
16:27
Watch the sun dip below the horizon. On this date, the sun sets toward the southwest, casting golden light across the water for about an hour before the final moment.
17:12
Head back to Café Kaskelot to warm up properly. The café stays open until 15:00 in the winter months, but since this is a sunset plan, ensure you check if they are open for evening service or return earlier in the day if the hours do not align. For this winter sunset, the café closes before evening, so consider finishing your drink there before the sun sets or use it as a pre-sunset stop.
Local tip
The sun sets in the southwest in January. Bring a layer; the wind off the Wadden Sea is strong.
