Cartier-Brébeuf National Historic Site
Walk the grounds of the Cartier-Brébeuf National Historic Site. The confluence of the Saint-Charles and Lairet rivers offers a quiet start to your evening, well before the crowds gather at the riverfront.

Head to the Dufferin Terrace boardwalk. You will arrive just as the sky hits its peak color. The western view over the St. Lawrence River is the perfect backdrop for the sunset moment described in the facts.

Dinner at Aux Anciens Canadiens. This spot specializes in traditional Quebecois cooking. The table d'hote is served until 17:45, which fits perfectly if you are timing your sunset viewing closely, or simply enjoy the hearty local cuisine as night falls. Reservations are recommended.
17:23
End the night at St Patrick. Located right on the terrace, this pub is excellent for live folk and Irish music. The atmosphere fills with sound and the outdoor terrace keeps you connected to the riverfront energy you enjoyed earlier.
Local tip
The sunset is toward the WSW. If you are visiting on 15 January, the golden light starts at 15:34, giving you ample time to find your spot on the Dufferin Terrace before the sun dips below the horizon.
Check before you go
- Aux Anciens Canadiens serves their table d'hote menu until 17:45. If you plan to eat there after the sunset, check if they still offer the prix-fixe deal or if you will be ordering from the regular menu.
- St Patrick is open daily until 03:00+, so late-night music and drinks are easily available after dinner.
