Timeline

  1. 15:24

    Baradla Cave (Vörös Lake entrance)

Walk to the Vörös Lake entrance of the Baradla Cave. This is the starting point for the tour and the best vantage point for the western sky. Check the tour times (10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00) in case you wish to join the 100-minute guided traverse, though simply being here offers a quiet moment before the main event.

  2. 15:54

    Pitics-hegyi-kilátó

Head southeast to the Pitics-hegyi-kilátó viewpoint. It is a 44-minute walk from the cave entrance. This elevated spot provides a clear view of the western horizon, perfect for capturing the sun setting toward the WSW.

  3. 16:09

    Pitics-hegyi-kilátó

Wait at the viewpoint for sunset. The golden light begins around 15:18, building to the main event at 16:09. The sky will turn toward the WSW as the day ends.

  4. 16:39

    Baradla Cave (Vörös Lake entrance)

Walk back to the Baradla Cave entrance (Vörös Lake) as the light fades. The path is the same 44-minute walk. The cave entrance remains a striking silhouette against the darkening sky.

Local tip

Since there are no food or drink shops listed in the immediate vicinity, bring water and snacks with you. The walk to the viewpoint is substantial, so wear comfortable shoes.
