Timeline

  1. 15:55

    Utah Lake State Park

Arrive at Utah Lake State Park early. The park opens at 8AM in winter and 6AM in summer, so you have plenty of time. Walk out onto one of the two long jetties that reach into the lake. The water is shallow and biologically active, so keep an eye on your footing and enjoy the marsh views with wild birds. This is a great time to stretch your legs and get your bearings before the main event.

  2. 16:40

    Utah Lake State Park

Head to the Utah Lake Marina area. It is a lovely spot to sit and wait. Since there are no specific food or drink shops listed in the immediate context, bring a snack or a warm drink with you. The marina borders the marsh, offering a peaceful backdrop as the golden light begins to fade.

  3. 17:25

    Utah Lake State Park

Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW in January, WNW in April and July, and due West in October. The view from the jetties or the marina edge captures the valley as the light changes. The shallow lake reflects the sky, creating a serene atmosphere.

  4. 18:10

    Utah Lake State Park

Stay for the afterglow. The park closes at 5PM in winter and 10PM in summer, so you have time to linger. The marsh and wild birds are still active. Take a slow walk back from the jetty or marina, enjoying the quiet as the day ends.

Local tip

Utah Lake is shallow and very biologically active, which can sometimes make it smell. Be prepared for that if you are sensitive to odors.
