Timeline
15:34
Walk the wide sands of Race Point Beach. The dunes here offer a clear view of the horizon to the west, perfect for watching the sky change color as the sun dips low.
16:34
Stay put for sunset. The beach faces west, giving you a direct line to the sun as it disappears. The surf can be rough, so keep a safe distance from the water's edge.
17:04
Head to the Province Lands Visitor Center. It is open year round, so you can use the rest rooms and grab a coffee or snack inside while the evening air cools down.
17:34
Walk down to Herring Cove Beach. It is usually calmer than Race Point, making it a peaceful place to end the night. The facilities are open late, and there is food available nearby if you are still hungry.
Local tip
The Visitor Center is open May to October from 9 AM to 5 PM. In January it is closed in the evening, so check the website for current hours if you are visiting in winter. The beach facilities at Herring Cove have rest rooms and food options available.
Check before you go
- Visitor Center hours vary by season. In winter, it closes at 5 PM, so you cannot enter for dinner after sunset. Plan to eat or drink before or after your beach time.
