Timeline
18:15
Start at the Old Harbor Life Saving Museum. Even if you do not go inside, the building itself is a striking piece of maritime history. Use this time to stretch your legs and orient yourself at the very tip of the cape before the light fades.
19:15
Walk the 50 minutes to the Lighthouse at Race Point. This historic beacon has stood since 1816. Arriving an hour before sunset gives you time to explore the keeper's house area and find the perfect spot on the dunes or near the light itself to watch the sky change color.
20:15
Watch the sun set toward the WNW. In July, the golden light begins around 19:33 and the sun dips below the horizon at 20:15. The view from Race Point is wide and dramatic, with the Atlantic Ocean stretching out to your west and the harbor to your east.
21:00
Head back to the Old Harbor Life Saving Museum as the light fades. The museum grounds offer a quiet place to reflect on the day. Since there are no food or drink shops listed in the immediate vicinity for this specific route, plan to grab a meal in Provincetown town after your return.
Local tip
The walk to the lighthouse is along the beach or dunes. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a layer, as it gets windy and cool by the water at sunset. Check the tide schedule if you plan to walk on the beach, as high tide can limit access.
