Stock Exchange Palace

It was built in the 19th century on the grounds of the destroyed old cloisters of the adjacent São Francisco church. It also contains the most impressive Arab room in the country. There is also a Port wine tasting room.

Sé do Porto

Porto Cathedral

This Romanesque cathedral was built in the 13th century. Later on Baroque alterations were made in the 17th and 18th century. The cathedral is on top of a hill from where you also have great views over the city and the river.

Torre dos Clérigos

Clerics' Tower

Panoramic views from this baroque tower. 226 steps to the top. It is best to get there early since there is not a lot of space on the viewing platform. You might even have to wait for some time before you are allowed to climb up the stairs.

Riverfront

The part of the city near the river, which is also a good place to start visiting the World Heritage area; to the other side of the river you will see the Ribeira de Gaia, a similar area from the city of Vila Nova de Gaia (the two are only separated by the river) and where you could find the Port Wine Cellars.

Port Wine Institute

A small exhibition about Port wine and its certification process. Samples of a small variety of Port wines can be bought. Guided tastings and tours to the laboratories can be arranged.

Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis

Soares dos Reis National Museum (Portuguese: Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis) is a museum, currently housed in the Carrancas Palace situated in the civil parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau e Vitória, in the northern Portuguese city of Porto. Founded in 1833, it is the first Portuguese national museum exhibiting collections of Portuguese art, including a collection by Portuguese sculptor António Soares dos Reis, from which the museum derives its name.

Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar

The Monastery of Serra do Pilar is a former monastery located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, on the opposite side of the Douro River from Porto. The monastery is situated on an outcrop overlooking the Dom Luís I Bridge and the historic centre of Porto. Together with these locations, the monastery was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

Modern Art Museum

A contemporary museum designed by the famous architect Álvaro Siza, with a huge garden/park and an Art Deco Villa. When visiting this foundation you can visit the exhibitions, relax at the park, have lunch at the restaurant, bar or tea house and explore the shops or the library. There is also a farm at the southern end of the park.

Livraria Lello

It's an old bookshop with an amazing interior and spiral staircase. Voted as one of the most beautiful bookshops in Europe. Be warned that it can get incredibly crowded and claustrophobic.

Due to the absurd number of tourists, to get in you have to buy a €10 ticket online (or €12 at the entrance), which can be used towards book purchases

Estação de São Bento

São Bento railway station (Portuguese: Estação ferroviária de São Bento) is a 20th-century railway terminal in the civil parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau e Vitória, in the municipality of Porto, district of Porto. The English translation of São Bento is Saint Benedict. The station is located in the Historic Centre of Porto, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and as a National Monument of Portugal.

Museu do Carro Eléctrico

The Porto Tram Museum (Museu do Carro Eléctrico) is a museum operated by the Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto. It was inaugurated in 1992 and is installed in a former thermoelectric power station next to the River Douro in Massarelos, Porto, Portugal. It exhibits material related to the history of trams in Porto.

Episcopal Palace of Oporto

The Episcopal Palace (Portuguese: Paço Episcopal) is the residence of the bishops of Porto, in Portugal. The palace is located on a high elevation, near Porto Cathedral, and dominates the skyline of the city. It is part of the historical centre of Porto, designated World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The palace is an important example of late Baroque and Rococo civil architecture in the city.

The Port Wine Museum (Museu do Vinho do Porto) is a museum located in Porto, Portugal. The museum recounts the history of port wine and its relevance to the city and the country. The museum is located in an 18th-century warehouse, the Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro, next to Douro River.

FC Porto Museum

The FC Porto Museum, officially known as FC Porto Museum by BMG (Portuguese: Museu do Futebol Clube do Porto by BMG) for sponsorship reasons, is a museum located in Porto, dedicated to the history of the Portuguese association football club FC Porto. It was inaugurated on 28 September 2013, on occasion of the club's 120th anniversary, and opened its doors to the general public on 26 October. Conceived and constructed by Sibina Partners (Barcelona) and MUSE (London), the museum occupies an area of almost 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) under the east stand of the Estádio do Dragão.

Igreja de Santa Clara

Igreja de Santa Clara is a Catholic church located in the parish of Sé in Porto, Portugal. The construction of the church began in 1416 alongside the Santa Clara Convent for use by nuns of the Order of Poor Clares. The nuns settled in the church in 1427, which was eventually completed in 1457.

Guilhermina Suggia

Guilhermina Augusta Xavier de Medim Suggia Carteado Mena (27 June 1885 – 30 July 1950), known as Guilhermina Suggia, was a Portuguese cellist. She studied in Paris with Pablo Casals and built up an international reputation. She spent many years living in the United Kingdom, where she was particularly celebrated.

Serralves Villa

Serralves is a cultural institution located in Porto, Portugal. It includes a contemporary art museum, a park, and a villa, with each one of these being an example of contemporary architecture, Modernism, and Art Deco architecture. The museum, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, is now the second most visited museum in Portugal (almost 1 million visitors per year).

Museu Municipal Casa do Infante

The Casa do Infante (House of the Prince), or alternately as the Alfândega Velha (Old Customshouse), is a historical house in the civil parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau e Vitória, in the municipality of Porto, in northern Portugal. The house was originally built in the 14th century as customs and mint, although its present condition derives mostly from a remodelling carried out in the 17th century. Its name derived from an oral tradition that suggested the house was the birthplace of Prince Henry the Navigator in 1394.

Rabelo boats

The rabelo boat (Portuguese: [ʁɐˈβe.lu]) is a traditional Portuguese wooden cargo boat that was used for centuries to transport people and goods along the Douro River. It is flat-bottomed, with a shallow draught, which was necessary to navigate the often shallow fast-flowing waters of the upper Douro prior to the construction of dams and locks from 1968 onwards. Native to the Douro region, it does not exist in any other place in the world.
