Walk to Chapman Elementary School. Park in the lot on the west side of the Montgomery Park building a few blocks north (available after 5:30 PM). Find a spot on the grass or sidewalk to watch the thousands of Vaux's swifts roost in the chimney.

End your evening at Kornblatt's Delicatessen. It is open late enough for a post-sunset meal or coffee, and the famous bagels are a perfect way to digest the spectacle.
Local tip
Street parking near the school is difficult. Use the Montgomery Park lot. Check the route for parking access if you drive.
