Best time: noneAbout 180 min

Timeline

  1. 10:00

    Portland Aerial Tram

Take the Portland Aerial Tram up to the Oregon Health Sciences University campus. The sleek ride offers splendid views of Downtown and the mountains on a clear day. Trams depart every 6 minutes, so you can hop on the next one if the first is full.

  2. 10:45

    Ross Island Grocery

Walk down to Ross Island Grocery for a café stop. It is a quick 4-minute walk from the tram area. Grab a coffee or light bite to go while you head toward the city center.

  3. 11:00

    Portlandia

Visit Portlandia, the large hammered-copper statue looming over the west entrance of the Portland Building. It is the second-largest hammered-copper statue in the U.S. and a striking piece of public art to see on your way to lunch.

  4. 11:30

    Huber’s

Head to Huber’s, Portland’s oldest restaurant, located near Mill Ends Park. Order a classic turkey dinner or a Spanish coffee poured right at your table. The lunch menu is affordable and the atmosphere is historic.

  5. 12:30

    Mill Ends Park

Finish your walk at Mill Ends Park, the officially recognized "smallest park in the world." It is a short stroll from Huber’s. It is a whimsical spot created as a leprechaun colony and snail racetrack, perfect for a quick photo and a laugh.

Local tip

The tram is part of Portland's public transit system. If you are visiting on a weekend, note that Sunday hours in the summer (Jun-Sep) are limited to 1PM-5PM, but on a typical weekday or winter weekend, it runs earlier. Check the route if you need to return to South Waterfront.

Check before you go

  • Huber’s is open for lunch Mon-Thurs 11:30-22:00 and Fri-Sat 11:30-23:00. It is closed early on Sundays (opens at 4PM), so this plan works best for weekday or Saturday visits.
  • Ross Island Grocery is open Mo-Fr 07:00-20:00 and Sa 08:00-19:00, so it will be open for your morning stop.

Worth knowing

  • Huber’s is open at 11:30 only on Mo, Tu, We, Th, Fr, Sa
