Timeline

  1. 16:17

    Pittock Mansion

Arrive at Pittock Mansion as it opens. Use the quietest time of day to explore the preserved interiors and collect the grounds pass. The climb from the bus stop is moderate, so give yourself time to settle in before the light changes.

  2. 17:37

    Umami Cafe

Head to Umami Cafe for a break. It serves Japanese tea and snacks, offering a calm pause before you head back down. Check the route for the walk back from the mansion.

  3. 18:11

    Pittock Mansion

Return to the grounds of Pittock Mansion. Find a spot facing west. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting golden light over the city skyline and the Willamette River. This is the key moment of the visit.

  4. 18:54

    Huber’s

End the evening at Huber’s, Portland’s oldest restaurant. It is known for its turkey dinners and Spanish coffees poured right at your table. The atmosphere is historic and fitting after a day in a Victorian mansion.

Local tip

The grounds are open from 5AM, but the mansion itself has specific hours. In October, it closes at 4PM, so plan your interior visit early. The walk down from the mansion to the cafe is about 15 minutes.
