Timeline

  1. 08:00

    Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park

Arrive at Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park as it opens. The morning light is crisp and the trails are quiet. Follow the directions from Sunol Boulevard, turning left on Foothill Road near the Castlewood community entrance. Spend the first hour exploring the oak forests and grasslands on the lower ridges before the sun climbs too high.

  2. 09:30

    Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park

Head back toward the main entrance area for lunch. Since there are no food or drink shops listed in the immediate vicinity, bring a picnic or snacks with you. Enjoy your meal with a view of the rugged Diablo Range country.

  3. 10:00

    Augustin Bernal Park

Walk over to Augustin Bernal Park. It is a smaller, quieter neighbor to the main park. The short walk (about 59 minutes on foot) lets you stretch your legs and see a different perspective of the landscape, just to the northwest.

Local tip

The park is free, but bring plenty of water. The ridges can be exposed, and the midday sun gets strong. If you want to extend your walk, Pleasanton Ridge Trail is also nearby.

Check before you go

  • Check the park hours for the specific day you plan to visit, as opening times may vary by season.
  • Since there are no food services on-site, ensure you pack your lunch and snacks.
