Arrive at Shoubak Castle. Hike 20 minutes from the highway fuel station to reach the castle on the hill. Enter the site and explore the rubble and underground rooms. Take a torch for the descent down the 375 steps to the old wells via the metal door and staircase. Note that the tunnel and staircase are temporarily closed for renovations as of July 2023, so check if access is available.

Head back toward the highway area for lunch or a snack. There are no specific food or drink shops listed in the immediate vicinity, so check the route for nearby options at the fuel station or along the road.

Return to the castle viewpoint for the spectacular views over the surrounding landscape before departing south toward Petra.

The underground rooms and wells are a unique feature, but the access points may be closed for renovations. Bring a torch if you plan to go down.
