Sunset

Golden Hour at Pine Hills

A short, scenic loop to catch the sunset glow over Penticton and Okanagan Lake.

Best time: 17:27About 90 min

Timeline

  1. 16:42

    Poplar Grove

Grab a glass of wine and some local cheese at Poplar Grove. The winery produces cheese to match their wines, so you can taste the terroir while you wait for the light to change.

  2. 17:17

    Pine Hills/Sage Mesa

Walk up to Pine Hills/Sage Mesa. This nine-hole par-3 golf course sits on a plateau overlooking the town and lakes. Find a spot on the edge of the course where the view opens up to the west.

  3. 17:27

    Pine Hills/Sage Mesa

Watch the sun sink toward the WSW. The golden light starts about 16:33, but the actual sunset at 17:27 is the key moment. The plateau offers a clear, unobstructed view of the sky changing color over the water.

  4. 17:57

    Rotary Park

End the evening at Rotary Park. It is a short walk southeast from the golf course. The park offers a relaxed space to decompress after the view, with easy access to the lakefront area.

Local tip

The walk from Pine Hills to Rotary Park is about 43 minutes on foot. If you prefer to stay closer, Mariposa Park is also nearby to the south, though slightly further. Check the route for the best path down from the plateau.

Check before you go

  • Poplar Grove is a winery; check if they require reservations for tastings.
