Timeline
16:52
Arrive at the viewing area near the JSA. Settle in and scan the horizon with binoculars to locate the 160 m flagpole and the apartment blocks of Kijong-dong. The early light helps you distinguish the structures clearly before the sun sets.
17:27
Wait quietly as the golden light begins to wash over the landscape. This is the best time to observe the contrast between the bright propaganda structures and the darkening DMZ.
17:37
Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting long shadows and a warm glow over the scene. The flagpole and buildings will be silhouetted against the fading sky.
18:07
Stay for a few minutes after the sun has dipped below the horizon. The residual light in the sky provides a final, serene view of the village before it becomes too dark to see details.
Local tip
Entry into Kijong-dong is not permitted. You must view it from the designated areas. Binoculars are highly recommended to see the details of the buildings and the flagpole.
