Timeline
16:30
Drive the 25 miles north of Oxford to Wall Doxey State Park. With the lake spring-fed and calm, use this time to settle in and find a spot on the shore where the western horizon is clear. The park is open for day use, so you can walk the perimeter trails to find the perfect vantage point.
17:10
Watch the sun set toward the WSW. The golden light starts about 16:32, giving you a warm glow over the water before the sun disappears at 17:10. Stay for the transition as the sky shifts from gold to deep blue.
17:40
Pack up as it gets dark. The park closes at dusk, so ensure you leave while there is still some light. Check the route back to Oxford carefully as you transition from natural light to evening driving.
Local tip
The park charges a day use fee of $4 per vehicle. Bring cash or a card for the entrance station.
Check before you go
