Best time: 15:00About 90 min

Timeline

  1. 14:15

    The King's Arms

Start with a quiet coffee or light lunch at The King's Arms. This popular student pub has an excellent location and reasonable food, making it a calm place to begin your walk before the afternoon crowds build.

  2. 14:40

    Oxford War Memorial

Walk 9 minutes from The King's Arms to the Oxford War Memorial. Stand at the north end of St Giles' where the road splits into the A4144 and A4165. The bronze panels bearing the names of the 47 men of St Margaret’s parish offer a moment for quiet reflection.

  3. 15:00

    Turf Tavern

Head 10 minutes away to the Turf Tavern. This well-hidden ancient pub is a favourite with locals and offers a nice beer garden. If the weather is chilly, you can roast marshmallows on the coal fires in spring and autumn.

Local tip

The King's Arms is a popular student pub, so it may be busier during term time. The Turf Tavern is hidden in back streets, so look for the sign.
