Golden Hour at Christ Church

Time your visit for the late afternoon light that turns the college and meadow into a scene from a painting.

Best time: 15 JanAbout 120 min

Timeline

  1. 15:08

    Quod Brasserie

Start with a coffee and a pastry at Quod Brasserie. It is open early enough to give you time to settle in before the rush of visitors.

  2. 15:38

    Christ Church

Walk to Christ Church. Enter the college grounds and head straight for the Great Hall. The high vaulted ceiling and long tables are iconic, and you will have the space to yourself before the main tour groups arrive.

  3. 16:08

    Christ Church Meadow

Exit the college and walk six minutes southeast to Christ Church Meadow. Find a spot on the grass facing the college. The sun is setting toward the southwest, casting long shadows across the lawn and illuminating the architecture in warm, golden light.

  4. 16:53

    The Grand Cafe

After the light fades, walk eight minutes to The Grand Cafe. Order afternoon tea. The warm interior and the ritual of scones with jam and clotted cream provide a cozy end to the evening.
