Timeline
15:42
Take bus 21 from the city centre (750 m walk from the museum stop) to the Pateniemi Sawmill Museum. Arrive early enough to explore the old drydock storage building and industrial exhibits while the late afternoon light is still bright. The museum is free and open until 17:00, giving you plenty of time before the golden hour begins.
16:42
Stand outside the museum building to watch the golden light hit the historic structures. On 15 October, the sun sets toward the WSW, casting a warm, low-angle glow over the industrial site. This is the perfect moment for quiet reflection and photography before the light fades completely at 17:55.
17:27
Head back toward the city centre for dinner. Check the route for bus 21 or a taxi to find a local restaurant. Since it is now after sunset, you are ready for a proper evening meal in Oulu.
Local tip
The museum closes at 17:00, so if you want to go inside, you must leave enough time. If you prefer just the exterior and the light, you can stay as long as you like.
