Timeline
16:00
Buy a BeaverTail pastry. The fried dough is warm and sweet, perfect for holding while you walk. It is open until 20:00, so you will have plenty of time.
16:30
Walk to Parliament Hill. This is the central spot for viewing the grounds. The hill overlooks the Ottawa River and offers a clear line of sight to the tulip displays as the light fades.
16:45
Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW around 16:45. The golden light hitting the Gothic revival architecture and the tulip fields creates a striking contrast against the evening sky.
17:15
End your evening at ByWard Market. It is a short walk from Parliament Hill. In the summer, the stalls sell fresh produce and flowers, and you can pick up maple syrup at a better price than at souvenir shops.
Local tip
The walk from Parliament Hill to ByWard Market is very short. If you want a quieter view of the sunset with Parliament Hill in the background, you can head to Kiwekì Point instead, but it is a longer walk from the hill.
