Walk to the Kon-Tiki Museum. The long walk from the center is worth it for the quiet approach before the crowds arrive. Arrive just as the sky begins to lighten.
06:01
Stand at the museum's waterfront edge. Watch the sun crest the horizon toward the WNW. The light hits the balsa rafts and the water in a way that feels still and historic.
06:21
Head to Kafé Fjord. It is just a minute's walk from the museum. Order coffee and something warm to recover from the morning chill. The café opens at 10:00 in summer, but on this April date it opens at 11:00. Since it is still early, grab a pastry from the nearby shop or wait inside if they open early for locals, otherwise enjoy the view from the window.
07:01
Explore the Kon-Tiki Museum interior. See Thor Heyerdahl's original raft and the artifacts from Easter Island. The morning light filtering through the windows adds a calm atmosphere to the exhibition.
Local tip
The walk from the city center to the Kon-Tiki Museum is long (47 minutes). Take the tram or bus to stop nearby, or start your walk earlier to account for the distance. The sun sets WNW, so the morning light is perfect for the museum's western-facing windows.
