Start your afternoon with a quiet walk through the historic center, grab a bite, and watch the city shift into evening light.

Best time: 15 OctAbout 150 min

Timeline

  1. 16:35

    13th Street Coffee Company

Grab a coffee and settle in for a while. 13th Street Coffee Company opens early, so the space is quiet and perfect for planning your route without the rush.

  2. 17:25

    Kountze Park

Walk north to Kountze Park. This urban green space in the Kountze Place neighborhood offers a peaceful contrast to the downtown grid. It is historically significant and provides a calm pause before heading back toward the center.

  3. 17:55

    Dirty Birds

Head back toward the anchor and stop at Dirty Birds. It is just a short walk from the center. Order some locally recognized street food to eat while you wait for the light to change. Check the hours to ensure they are open for your chosen day.

  4. 18:05

    Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center

Stand before the Rose Blumkin Performing Arts Center. The Moorish and Classical architecture catches the golden hour light beautifully as the sun begins its descent toward the west. This is the moment to pause and appreciate the historic facade.

Local tip

The walk from Kountze Park back to downtown is longer than the others, so allow extra time for that leg. If you prefer a sit-down meal over street food, The Max is open late, but for a daytime plan, Dirty Birds or Pickleman's Cafe are better fits for the timing.

Check before you go

  • Dirty Birds is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. If visiting on those days, choose Pickleman's Cafe (open daily 10:00-22:00) or Ted & Wally's instead.
  • 13th Street Coffee Company is open from 06:30 on weekdays, so it is available for your early start.

Worth knowing

  • Dirty Birds is open at 17:55 only on Th, Fr, Sa
