Timeline
09:00
Enter the Zoo (Tiergarten) right at opening. In winter the gates open at 09:00, giving you the whole morning to walk the forest trails and old quarries before the crowds arrive. In summer you can arrive slightly later at 08:00, but 09:00 is the safest bet for a quiet start.
10:00
Walk to Kriemhildes Backwut for a break. This traditional bakery is just an 8-minute walk from the Nagel area near the zoo. Order a slice of cake or a fresh pastry to enjoy while the city buzzes outside. It is open Monday to Friday until 18:00 and Saturday until 14:00, so this fits perfectly into a mid-morning schedule.
10:30
Head back toward the Zoo grounds or linger in the Nagel area. If you have energy left, return to the Tiergarten to see the Dolphinarium shows or walk the specific paths. If you prefer to stay in the Nagel vicinity, the area offers a calm atmosphere with several dining options like Lin Asia or La Commedia if you need a proper lunch instead of a snack.
Local tip
Check the exact opening hours for the day you visit. In winter the zoo closes at 17:00, so plan your bakery stop early enough to return or leave on time. Kriemhildes Backwut closes at 14:00 on Saturdays, so aim for your pastry before then.
