Watch the sun dip below the horizon. The golden light starts about 37 minutes before sunset, giving you a soft, warm glow over the historic stone walls. Stay for the last few minutes of light.

Stroll through the fort grounds as it gets dark. The history of the site is palpable in the quiet. You can take the seasonal guided tours if you arrived earlier, but the evening atmosphere is best for a self-paced walk through the soldier's quarters and grounds.
