Timeline
08:00
Walk through the Queens Botanical Garden while the air is cool and the paths are empty. The Victorian-style wedding garden is particularly peaceful in the morning light.
09:00
Head to Henan Feng Wei for lunch. Order the stir-fried cumin lamb biang biang noodles and try the lamb soup if you have room. It is nothing fancy but quite authentic.
09:45
Walk over to Chang Jiang Supermarket. It is positively the biggest Chinese supermarket in New York. Browse the aisles to see why it is the best for most purposes, even if you do not buy anything.
Local tip
The garden is free from November to March, but costs $4 for adults in the warmer months. Arriving at opening ensures the quietest experience.
