Pick up a plate of Cajun soul food at Coop's Place. It is a locals' favorite for good prices and fried chicken. Note that you must be 21 or older to enter because of the video poker machines.
14:45
Walk just across St. Claude to Sweet Lorraine's Jazz Club. This neighborhood venue serves Creole and soul food from 5 PM to 10 PM and plays local modern jazz. You can sit in the dining area or find a spot near the stage to listen to the music as the afternoon light fades.
15:30
Stroll over to New Orleans Jazz Park in Dutch Alley. This pedestrian alley on the river side of Decatur Street often features free live music in the weekend afternoons. It is a great spot to sit and listen to the local sounds while enjoying the final moments of daylight.
Local tip
Check the route for the walk between the restaurant and the jazz club. The park is a short walk from the club, but verify the specific pedestrian paths in the French Market area.
