Timeline

  1. 16:22

    Napoleon House

Grab a drink in the Napoleon House. The interior hasn't been repainted since World War I and classical music plays softly. It is open until 22:00, so this is the perfect early evening start.

  2. 17:02

Louis Armstrong Park and the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park

Walk to Louis Armstrong Park. Arrive 20 minutes before the sun dips below the horizon. The golden light at 16:47 will illuminate the statues of Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and Buddy Bolden in Congo Square.

  3. 17:22

Louis Armstrong Park and the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park

Watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting a warm glow over the historic park and the visitor center at 916 N Peters St.

  4. 17:52

    Antoine's

Head to Antoine's for dinner. As the oldest same-family-owned restaurant in the country, it is a fitting end to a historic evening. Note that on weekdays it closes at 14:00 for lunch, so you must be there for the 17:30 dinner service which runs until 21:00.

Local tip

Antoine's is closed on Sundays for dinner service beyond 14:00. If you are visiting on a Sunday, skip Antoine's and choose Galatoire's or Mr. B's Bistro instead, which are open later.
