Drive up Summit Road to the Mount Kaputar Summit Lookout carpark before the sun appears. The access can be tricky in wet weather, so check conditions if it has rained. Park up and prepare your binoculars and camera for the steep wooden staircase to the top.
06:11
Stand at the summit as the sun rises toward the WSW. The 360-degree views reveal the granite faces and wilderness below. Bring warm and waterproof clothes as the weather is unpredictable at this height.
06:41
Descend back to the carpark. Use the picnic table area to rest and review your photos before heading down the mountain.
07:11
Drive back down to Narrabri. Check the route for the best way to reach the town center from Maitland Street.
07:41
Find a local cafe or shop in Narrabri for breakfast or coffee. Since there are no food or drink options listed at the mountain, you will need to locate an open establishment in town after your return.
Local tip
The walk to the summit is short but steep. Wear sturdy shoes and bring layers, as the temperature drops significantly before sunrise and can change quickly.
