Walk to Riyam Park. Climb the hillside to the giant incense burner for a clear, elevated view of the harbour and the palace.

Position yourself at the entrance of Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting golden light on the palace and the twin forts of Mirani and Jelali. You cannot enter the palace, but this is the best spot for photographs.
Local tip
The walk from Old Muscat to the viewing area is short, but allow time to find the best angle at the palace entrance before the light fades.
