Grab a bite at Käfer-Schänke. This upscale restaurant serves haute cuisine and is just a short walk from the museum. It is open until midnight, so you have plenty of time to eat and digest before heading out.
16:01
Walk to the Deutsches Museum viewpoint. The museum is an enormous science and technology hub, but for this experience, you are only interested in the view. The walk from the restaurant takes about 39 minutes, so arrive early to find your spot. The museum is located SW of the anchor, with the anchor to the NE, but the viewing spot is the key here. Wait for the sky to turn.
16:46
Watch the sun set toward the WSW. At 16:46, the golden light fades and the sun dips below the horizon. The Deutsches Museum offers a vantage point to see this daily spectacle.
17:31
End the evening at Wirtshaus in der Au. This traditional restaurant in the Au district is highly rated for its cuisine and service. It is only a 4-minute walk from the museum, making it the perfect easy finish to a day spent observing the sky. It is open until 23:00 on weekends.
Local tip
The Deutsches Museum is huge. Do not try to explore it fully; you need a full day for that. For this experience, just head to the viewpoint area to catch the light. Check the tram route if you are coming from the city center.
