Timeline
16:26
Head to the White Sand Dunes. Since they are about 45 km from the main tourist strip and too far for a bicycle, take a 4WD or quad drive arranged by a local tourist agency or your resort. Arrive with enough time to settle in before the light changes.
17:11
Watch the golden light wash over the white sand. The sun sets toward the WSW, so position yourself to frame the dunes against the brightening sky. This is the peak moment for photography and quiet reflection.
17:41
Stay for the sunset at 17:41. The light will fade quickly, but the atmosphere shifts as the temperature drops and the dunes turn from bright white to soft grey and pink.
18:41
Begin the return journey to the Ham Tien tourist strip. If you haven't already, arrange your transport back now, as options may be limited once it is fully dark.
Local tip
Bring a light jacket. The desert air cools down rapidly after sunset, even in summer.
