Montreal (French: Montréal) is the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec. While Quebec City is the political capital, Montreal is the cultural and economic centre, and the main entry point to the province. With 1.8 million residents in the city (2021), and 4 million in the urban area, Montreal is Canada's second largest city and the largest francophone city in the Americas. That said, the city has a proud tradition of bilingualism, with a large and long-established Anglophone minority, and most Francophones being conversant in English. Montreal Clock Tower

Tour de l'Horloge de Montréal

Also known as the Sailors' Memorial Clock, the clock tower was built between 1919-1922 as a memorial to sailors lost at sea. Its clock mechanism is similar to Big Ben's and was known for its accuracy; sailors would often set their watches by it. The clock tower is no longer open to visitors.

The inviting, super-modern home to the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, a massive library housing four million works. The tiles that cover the outside of the building are made to resemble a closed book. Architectural tours are offered.
