Best time: 15 JanAbout 120 min

Timeline

  1. 16:02

    Mount Ramon

Drive up Route 171 to the summit of Mount Ramon. This is the highest point remaining from the original mountain, offering a full view of the crater and Mount Ariff. Arrive early enough to find a parking spot and walk to the western edge before the light changes.

  2. 17:02

    Mount Ramon

Stand at the western edge and watch the sun sink toward the WSW. The golden light from 16:27 will have already painted the crater walls in warm tones. Stay for the final moments of daylight as the sky shifts from gold to deep blue.

  3. 17:47

    Mount Ramon

Begin the drive back down Route 171 from HaRukhot junction. It is now dark, so drive carefully. The view of the crater is gone, but the quiet of the desert night is its own reward.

Local tip

The road to Mount Ramon is steep and winding. Allow extra time for the drive up and down. No food or drink options are listed at the summit, so bring water and snacks with you.
